Naked Egg

Stephen and I decided to do the naked egg experiment. We'd heard of it, but want to touch it for ourselves!

We gathered vinegar, a cup and an egg

Stephen put the egg in the cup and then just covered it with vinegar. The egg floated a bit.

After 24 hours, we took it out and much of the shell had dissolved.  Stephen rubbed it a bit and got most of the shell off. There were still bits and pieces, so we got fresh vinegar and soaked the egg for another 24 hours.

Then we had a truly naked egg!

Next, we bounced it! Yes, it bounces! We dropped it from app 2, 4 and 6 inches.  The 6 inch drop did the poor egg in. Ker - SPLatttt!

Remember When Wednesday...take 6

In 6 short weeks Stephen will officially be a Freshman in High School! Impossibly true. So, for this edition of Remember When Wednesday, I decided to look back at his 8th grade year:

What are you remembering today? Link up! :)

A Steak Sandwich Tradition

At 17 I fell in love. He was tall and smart, with twinkling blue eyes and I melted when he held my hands in his.

We were together as much as possible. We loved doing things together and for each other.

One summer evening, my love decided to cook supper for me.

I was completely charmed! {grins}

I was sure he was not only a genius, but would also make an amazing chef someday.

The meal he made me 22 years ago is now a favorite around our house!

I later found out, this meal was originally created by my dear FIL. But, I still think of it as "ours."
And we are continuing the tradition...

I wonder who he will cook these for someday?

Family Date Night Steak Sandwiches

[in our house these must be served with Puff Cheetos on the side because that is how my love served them to me!]

Hoagie Rolls
Cube Steak
Red and Green Bell Peppers, cut in strips
Sweet Onions, cut into rings or strips
sliced mushrooms
Fresh tomatoes, sliced
Mozzarella Cheese
Black Olives, sliced
Mayo (Olive Oil Reduced Fat Mayo is my Favorite!)
Zesty Italian Dressing
Olive Oil and seasoning for Hoagies

Prep all your veggies.
Cook cube steak in grill pan.
Saute veggies in a little butter.

To a 1/4 cup of olive oil add some seasonings: We use salt, pepper, garlic poweder, herbes de provance.
Mix together and brush onto your sliced open hoagies.
Bake in 450 oven for about 5-7 minutes and then turn on broiler and toast. Watch so you don't burn them!

How to build:

Toasted Hoagie
Mayo
Cube Steak
sliced tomatoes
Sauteed peppers, onions, and mushrooms
Mozzarella Cheese
black olives
Drizzle on the Zesty Italian dressing

Nom Down!  Messy, lovely and YUMMY!

Don't forget the Puff Cheetos! :)

Old Signs

Old signs are cool. The fonts and designs are fun! I {finally} had my camera on me, and took a couple of pics while in Pensacola, FL on vacation.  I don't know anything about the era or smart stuff like that, I just like how they look! ;)

Remember When Wednesday...take 5

I don't know if this truly qualifies as a "Remember When.." since it only happened last week on vacation! :)

We decided to try Sharpie Tie Dying.  Which I found on Pinterest, of course!

We stayed up late our last night in Florida. Then Katrina stayed up all night (she wanted to sleep well on the car ride back to Texas!) and made one for her baby nephew (my great nephew), Jaxon.

 Here's Stephen's contribution...
Katrina added more to hers later, but here's where she was at the time I gave it up and went to bed!
We made one for Jaxon's mommy (Colleen) too!
Link up and share your memories!

Cousins

L to R: Stephen, Katrina, Chance

My brother, sister and I all had babies around the same time in 1997. Chance, my brother Doug's son, was born in September.  Stephen  was born in October, and two week's later, in November, Carla had her third child, Katrina.

Being 12 years younger than Doug and 10 years younger than Carla, I never dreamed I would have a child that would grow up with their children.  I loved it!!

These three sweeties will be Freshmen in High School in the new school year!

And that is hard on this Momma/Aunt heart!

I'm playing with Jenny at Alphabe-Thursday!

Remember When Wednesday...take 4

These photos were taken the summer of 1997. I was very pregnant with Stephen.  It was hot out and Virgil and I decided to cool down with the water hose in the backyard of the first little house we rented as a married couple.

We always have a fun time together!

Always will!
