Baby and Band Boy

Jaxon and family came for a visit this past Sunday evening.  Precious little man!  He will be 3 weeks old in 2 days and already tries to "be big" - holding up his little head and wiggling around like he wants to take off on his own.

And on another "B" note: Last night was Stephen's band banquet.  It was a Mexican Fiesta theme and parents decorated and brought a variety of Mexican food dishes.  Virgil and I made two large pans of cheese enchiladas, and a batch of Hill Country Salsa to share. There were door prizes for the band kids, speeches by the graduating seniors and the band director, and awards. Stephen was awarded The Most Outstanding Under Classman award.  We are very proud of his hard work in band this year!

I haven't done this in awhile, but I'm linking up with Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday!

Remember When Wednesday...take 3

Stephen, age 7 (a month short of 8)

Oops! Guess who didn't prepare again! :)

Oh well! Here's another random memory.  This was taken at my nephew, Cole's, 8th birthday party. The kids had a great time blowing bubbles.  Isn't bubble blowing one of the greatest things about childhood?  And I'll admit, I still love it!  In fact, on Pinterest, I saw where someone broke open a glow stick and mixed it with their bubble juice and had glow in the dark bubbles!  How fun is that!!?

I love this photo of Ste..his crazy thick hair, dimpled hands and pretty blue eyes. He's always been such a sweet guy!

Spring Band Concert 2012

Last night was the Spring Band Concert.

Each year, the band director asks his 6th grade band to join the high school band for one number.
They did a great job!  Band is compulsory in the 6th grade, and Stephen is hoping to influence some of the 6th grade Tuba players to stick with it.

I can rarely see Stephen when he's performing during concert season. So I thought I'd point him out!{SMILES!}   He played Tuba during the ensemble program, and played his Sousaphone with the 6th graders and High School Jazz Band.

more arrows! hehe

A group of seniors put together this number inspired by a youtube video. There were 4 different people
playing the guitar.

There was also a group that performed a tube percussion number.  It was great!!

Virgil's parents came out to watch the program.  We enjoyed having them with us!

Stephen is passionate about music.  And we are passionate about him. ;)

Thankful for our blessings!

Homemade Ice Cream Season

Warm weather means homemade ice cream season at our house!  One of our favorites is also super easy.

You need a 2L bottle of your favorite soda pop. [Our all-time favorite is Big Red.  We've also used Cream Soda and Orange Sunkist (pictured).  Later this summer, we want to try a Welch's Grape Soda.]

ok...2L bottle of soda
1 can condensed milk
and

that's it!

Pour the condensed milk into your canister.  Slowly pour in soda and gently stir.
Let the bubbles settle a bit.  Mix according to your ice cream maker directions.

Enjoy!  Preferably in a mason jar. [wink, wink] :)

Remember When Wednesday...take 2

So, best laid plans: I was going to start at the beginning of our family story today.  I hadn't decided if I would start with photos of Virgil and I in our dating years, or begin with our Wedding or begin with my pregnancy.  As it turns out, I didn't do ANY preparation!  So today I'm sharing one of my favorite photos of Stephen that I have digitally stored. :)

Stephen is 6 years old in this photo. He was riding in our town's Pioneer Day parade.  The float was dedicated the the United States Military.

The way his dimpled little hand is laying on the rail of the trailer melts this Momma's heart!  His sweet expression...le sigh! I would love to cuddle that little sweety again!

Do you have any memories to share?  Link up!

Soda Pop Bottle Grad Gift

I have a young cousin graduating from High School this year. I am not able to make it to the ceremony but wanted to send a gift along.  And when I saw this on Pinterest, I knew I must copy it!

My version is stuffed with twenty $1 dollar bills and 12 cents (you know...2012!) and a bunch of different candies and gums.

The index card label I got here, uploaded to Picmonkey, added my text and printed!

A super easy, and FUN giftie, doncha' think?

Remember When Wednesday

I always wanted to be one of those Momma's who scrapbooked. [is that the proper way to turn scrapbook into a verb? ;) ]  I gave it a good try. In the late 90s and early 2000s I bought a lot of scrapping crap [er, supplies], and I created a few pages [that never looked like what I imagined in my head.] I cut up photos [eeek...hate myself for that now.] I just couldn't keep up...with developing photos from my not very good film camera, scrapping, the new trends....[sighs]

And now that my Ste is 14, I wish I had books to look through.  It's just not the same with a huge plastic box filled with envelopes from Wal-mart, Target, etc, etc.

So....I'm giving myself an ongoing project.  Each Wednesday I am going to create a post of photos from "back in the day." I might even learn to embellish or something! But mostly, I'm just going to load photos and journal about them.

Let me know if you would be interested in joining in.  If there's interest, I will do a link party.

And just to get started:

This was taken in July 2005 on a fishing trip at my in-laws pond. Stephen was 7 years old.  He has always loved fishing and always had a long attention span for it.  We were and are always ready to call it quits way before he is! He's wearing his Daddy's fishing hat and sunglasses.  That sweet smile is all Ste!
