~garden snakes~

Saturday morning Virgil cleared out our flower bed to prepare for planting Fall color.
He found a family of garden snakes.
Which Stephen promptly decided to house in this plastic bin to observe.

This morning, we decided it was time to release them back to the garden.

But we had to let them crawl all over us first!

Did you love doing this as a kid? I loved playing with them then...and now!

I've never seen such tiny snakes, but I hate them ALL! I don't know what I'd do if I found one in my yard!

I'm gonna be honest. I have no such memories.

Hi Amy,
We played w/them ALL the time at my Grandmothers house. She had a tractor tire flower planter and for some reason they loved to nest under there. That was the highlight of going to her house, to find snakes. She gave us an old enamelware tea kettle from the garage and we used to put them in there. They were never afraid of us. We let them crawl up the sleeves of our sweatshirts and they would nap. Grandma hated them though. She told us of stories where she would chop the mother's head off and then all the babies would crawl out. (They have a little pocket where the babies sleep.) Crazy, huh? We used to love to tease her w/our findings. LOL She probably dreaded us coming over.
