The Thing About Traveling Part 2
The thing about traveling is that after all the packing and planning and driving....you ARRIVE!! Hello Memphis!

The thing about traveling
We're headed for Memphis tomorrow. And on Monday we're heading down to Florida for a few days.
The thing about traveling is you have to PACK, and find someone to feed your fish and lizards and take in the one doggie you are leaving behind! (Sorry Patch-y)! Oh, and you need to stop your mail and have someone watch your house and make sure you don't forget something vital like underwear or a toothbrush!
The thing about traveling is....I'm a procrastinator. Need I say more?

First Track Meet
Stephen signed up for Summer Track to start learning how to throw the shot put and discus. He is not yet old enough to compete in discus, but later in the summer may be able to throw with the 14 and under group for practice.
Yesterday was his first track meet. He threw in the 12 and under shot put competition and placed 3rd. He was so stinkin' excited. We have lots of fun watching him!
Here he is throwing:
And here he is with his ribbon:
Jasper, our nephew, is also competing in Summer Track. Yesterday he participated in the High Jump and 100 M Dash in the 14 and under group. He placed 4 in the 100 meter dash. Jasper will be doing more competitions when a muscle bruise on his thigh heals.
Here is Jasper jumping:
And here he is in the 100M dash: (black shorts and navy top)
Congratulation boys!! We're looking forward to our Saturdays at the track this summer!

hill country salsa
I have a recipe to share today! And, man o man is it YUMMY!
We love this scooped with tortilla chips or as the only topping on shredded pork tacos. mmmmm
Hill Country Salsa
1 - 15 oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 - 15 oz can sweet whole kernal corn, drained
4 large tomatoes, chopped
2 avocados, peeled and chopped
1 large green bell pepper, chopped
6 green onions, chopped (green parts too!)
1 large jalapeno, diced (leave the seeds in for hotness or take them out for a milder salsa)
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
2 TBLS olive oil
1 teas salt
2 teas cumin
cilantro, optional (about a 1/4 cup chopped should do it)
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and toss gently. Cover and chill. Serve with tortilla chips or as a condiment for tacos.

Early Morning Phone Calls
I don't like early morning phone calls. Nothing good comes from them. At least not in my circle of family and friends. We sleep in, unless we're going to work or somewhere...and then we don't have time for conversation. Not at unspeakable times...like 5 a.m.....on a Sunday!
So, when my phone rang this morning, I knew it wasn't good. I made my way to the phone, groggy and disoriented. In the darkness I couldn't figure out how to answer the phone! Then I heard Virgil's cell phone ringing.
Nope...this can't be good.
And it wasn't.
Mom was transported to the hospital early this morning. The aide at her nursing facility said she went in to check on her and she was convulsing and had blood coming from her mouth. This was the information I had as I got dressed and Virgil drove me to the hospital. When I saw Mom she looked at me and said, "Momma, I hurt!" I comforted her as best I could.
I'm not sure about what happened at the nursing home, but officially she was admitted to the hospital with Aspiration Pneumonia. She had bitten her tongue and I assume that is where the blood was coming from.
And she knew who I was before I left. I think she just got a little rattled with the pain and called me Momma.
Keep her in your prayers. Prayers relief of pain are SO appreciated.

No Bitter Fruit
She offered the fruit she had lovingly chosen and prepared.
A snarled face, and “It’s bitter!” was the response.
She offered the sugar free ice cream she had picked up on a whim.
Three bites were consumed, and then, “No more!”
She stroked her hair and moved her fan closer. Now she settled into the recliner with her Bible. She thought , “The Bread of Life is what is needed here.”
She began reading Psalm 103.
A head turned toward her. Eyes focused on her.
No bitter fruit.
Only love.

Wow! An award...
Well tickle me pink and call me happy! My pal Carol has given me an award! See it over there...on the right-hand side? Thank you Carol!
Part of accepting the award is to pass it on to ten other blogs. I love lots of blogs, but these are the tops!
1. I'll start with Carol's blog, Around Our House. I know she gave it to me, but her blog is one of my favorite places to visit. I love reading about her family and dogs, seeing her photographs, and hearing about her scrapping parties.

busy LAST Saturday
Last Saturday, April 25th was a busy day. We started out at Meg's soccer game.
Meg can throw!
Meg can kick!
Meg can run!
And that's hot work!
Afterward, my in-laws treated us to lunch at our favorite Mexican food restaurant...and they ended up treating three extras when we ran into my nephew, Reece (my sister Carla's son), and two of his friends, Tony and Luis. We had a great time visiting.
Next, Stephen and I(Virgil was working) attended Makenna's 2nd birthday party. There were balloons, a trampoline, a brand-new birthday swing set, hot dogs (we weren't hungry and had to pass on those!), and more gifts than the toy section at the local Wal-mart!
Oh, and there was the star of the show, Miss Makenna!
Is it really possible that she is two?
